If you intend to attend a language in Germany, you have to apply for a student visa before entering Germany. German law differs between language courses that are taken to start university afterwards and so-called „isolated“ language courses with no connection to a study programme. A language courses that prepares you for a university programme requires a proof that have to have a knowledge of German for your intended study programme. Those language courses are usually offered by universities. A visa for a so-called „isolated“ language course can be granted only in exceptional cases if you prove that knowledge of German is required for a job in Germany (e.g. as a doctor).
In principle, a decision about your visa application will me be made in cooperation with the aliens’ authority at your intended place of residence in Germany. Therefore, processing time usually takes about four weeks. Processing time for „isolated“ language courses can take about three months. The embassy highly recommends submitting your visa application as early as possible to avoid a delay of your entry into Germany. A visa application can be submitted up to three months prior to the intended date of entry.
An appointment can only be booked online. The visa fee is 75€ and can be paid in cash or by credit card.
