All information provided in this leaflet is based on the state of knowledge of the German Embassy at the time of composition. No responsibility is taken for the completeness or correctness of this information.
If you intend to work in Germany, you have to apply for a visa and work permit before entering Germany. There are different legal options to issue a work permit depending on the intended work place, salary and qualifications. If you are a skilled worker with a university degree recognised in Germany, you may be eligible for a Blue Card EU. If so, please check the information paper for Blue Card EU applications.
A decision about your application will be made in cooperation with the German agency of labour. Therefore, processing time of your application can vary but usually takes between one to two weeks. An application for a visa can be submitted up to three months prior to the intended date of entry into Germany. The embassy highly recommends applying as early as possible to avoid any delays.
The recognition of your foreign university degree or your foreign training degree in Germany is mandatory. The recognition of foreign diplomas can be checked in the database ANABIN (www.anabin.kmk.org ). The university as well as the degree itself have to be mentioned in the database. If none of your degrees is recognized in Germany, you have to apply for a single comparability statement before submitting your visa application. Further information can be found on the website www.anabin.kmk.org . Foreign training degrees can only be recognized upon application. This process has to be finalized before submitting your visa application. More information can be found here: www.make-it-in-germany.com .
An appointment to submit your application can only be booked online. The visa fee is 75€ and can be paid in cash or by credit card.
