All information provided in this leaflet is based on the state of knowledge of the German Embassy at the time of composition. No responsibility is taken for the completeness or correctness of this information.
If you intend to study in Germany, you have to apply for a student visa before entering Germany. Exceptions are applicable to students, who intend to study in Germany only for one semester as part of the Erasmus programme: Foreign students holding a Lithuanian residence permit while studying in Lithuania, who intend to study in Germany under a student exchange programme for not more than 360 days, do not require a German visa or residence permit if they have a certificate about the entry and residence for study purposes according to EU regulation 2016/801/EU, issued by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). This certificate is issued upon request of the German university by the BAMF. Please contact your university for further information.
In principle, a decision about your visa application will me be made in cooperation with the aliens’ authority at your intended place of residence in Germany. Therefore, processing time usually takes about four weeks. The embassy highly recommends submitting your visa application as early as possible to avoid a delay of your entry into Germany. A visa application can be submitted up to three months prior to the intended date of entry. Processing time for Erasmus students is usually about a week.
An appointment can only be booked online. The visa fee is 75€ and can be paid in cash or by credit card. Visa applications will not be charged for stays financed by a public scholarship (Erasmus, DAAD etc.).
The following documents are requested:
