If you intend to work as a freelancer in Germany, you have to apply for a visa including work permit before moving there. The visa will allow you to work as a freelancer according to your visa application, but it will not allow you to do any other work, especially not to be employed in Germany.
A positive decision about your application requires the consent of the aliens’ authority at your intended place of residence. Furthermore, you have to prove a sufficient income from your freelancer work to finance all living costs in Germany including health, care and pension insurance. Also, the intended freelancer work has to be plausible according to your CV. Make sure to submit only meaningful and clear documents!
Processing time may take several months. The embassy highly recommends submitting your visa application as early as possible to avoid a delay of your entry into Germany. A visa application can be submitted up to three months prior to the intended date of entry.
An appointment can only be booked online. The visa fee is 75€ and can be paid in cash or by credit card (Master, Visa).
